We’re getting a lot of hits on our old Ultra Street Fighter IV moves article, which was published during the location tests, so here’s an updated list of USFIV moves for the new characters; Decapre, Elena, Hugo, Poison and Rolento:

Ultra Street Fighter 4 is here!

Here it is! The moment we’ve all been waiting for; Ultra Street Fighter IV is available to download for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The 1.92GB update will grant your favorite fighting game with 5 new characters, a rebalanced roster,  new modes, new features, new stages, new moves…new, new, new!

The five year old fighting game was in need of a tune-up, with everyone on the pro scene running out of things to learn and discover in the previous, SSFIV:AE2012 iteration, and USFIV has thrown in a fair few things to mix things up.

UltraSFIV-1

Even though most fighter fans are looking to the five new fighters to provide the mixup, the devil is in the detail with Ultra. The real difference in Ultra will come from the all-round gameplay. Red Focus grants players the ability to take an extra “free” hit, delayed wake-ups will render many mixups, vortexes and resets obsolete and the return of aggressive options for the likes of Chun Li, Ken and Yun mean that this should be the most aggressive Street Fighter yet!

In addition, the ability to select which version of Street Fighter 4 to summon your character from, and the ability to select both ultra options in a single match means that the potential number of matches in Ultra Street Fighter IV is through the roof.

Lastly, with the breath of new life in Street Fighter 4, comes a breath of new life in the competitive fighting scene. Be sure to get in touch with your local arcade and FGC, as new tournaments and meetups are happenning all over the world, in light of the new game.

Ultra Street Fighter IV – New Characters’ Move Lists

(EDIT: If you want a full list of all the moves lists for the new characters, including Decapre, I’ve compiled a full, translated list. Click here)

Here’s a quick pic of the moves lists on the Vewlix Ultra Street Fighter Cabs, showing the moves lists for Hugo, Rolento, Elena and Poison…nothing for Decapre however, maybe this is a pre-announcement Cab.

Anyhow, Typical SFIII-esque movesets for Elena and Hugo by the looks of it, and typical QCF/QCB stuff all round. Hopefully an official Decapre setup will come around soon.

Everything you need to know about the new Ultra Street Fighter IV character – Decapre

Last night, as the sun set on Final Round 17, Capcom, as promised, shown us what we had all been waiting for; the fifth new character to appear in Ultra Street Fighter IV.

Speculation had been hot in the air since the announcement at Evo 2013; from Master Goutetsu, to Gouken’s estranged daughter, Oujo-San, to Aura from Asura Wrath, the guesses had been shotgunned right across the Capcomiverse.

Anyone who’d shouted “Another one of Bison’s dolls” from day 1 got it right, with the introduction of twisted sister, Decapre.

The FGC has erupted with skepticism already, accusing Capcom of laziness and trollishness, but there are some logical reasons behind bringing in a doll, one of Bison’s brainwashed bodyguards, and plenty to look forward to, with Decapre.

The S.I.N and Shadowloo element of Street Fighter IV has been pretty sparse, with the focus being much more on the Ansatsuken saga of Akuma, Gouken, Ryu et al.

With the other 4 new charaters; Rolento, Elena, Poison and Hugo, the Street Fighter storyline becomes even more diluted, and hopefully Decapre will bring it back.

The dolls had been hinted at, as the Cammy/Juri rivalry arose, and without another doll (we knew Juni and Juli wouldn’t be making an appearance), we’d be left with another blue-ball on what happens with Cammy’s old room-mates.

Cammy herself was under fire for most of 2013 for being the choice of the “tier-whore” and encouraging one-sided, unbalanced play, and from what has been seen so far from Decapre, she’s going to be mush less of an all rounder. Here are some of the facts.

  • Basic normals and spikes are similar to Cammy’s
  • Huge, damaging combos
  • Charge mechanics
  • Scramble and teleport abilities
  • Hundred-hand-style dash combo
  • Psycho Drive Super
  • Yoga-Catastrophe style Ultra I “Psycho Stream”
  • Ground or anti-air Ultra II, with basic hit-confirms on ground
  • Nice, target-combo mixups
  • Psycho-powered claw techniques
  • Large uppercut for AA and wakeups
  • Teleport escape options on wakeup
  • “Candidate for Ultra Combo Double” – Combofiend
  • Specializes in guesswork and trickery
  • Configured for fast, all-offence play

From what has been seen so far, Decapre looks like a great option for Vega fans, with very similar mechanics, but a much more straightforward, all-out approach, no masks and claws to worry about and much less readable airstrikes.  Decapre is also a great new option for charge fans, who have a whole new style of play, rather than the current array of dashes and dives.

Famously, Ryan Hart took the stage, to pit his Vanilla Sagat and AE Yun against Combofiend’s new doll, using Ultra’s new “Version Select” feature. V-Sagat and AE Yun are widely considered two of the most tilted players in Street Fighter IV’s repertoir, and Capcom’s newcomer dominated them both.

She’s still sitting on the Street Fighter scales right now, 85% through her balancing phase, but we’re all hoping Ultra comes out as a strong, competitive fighter, and that the 5 newcomers down fall away into the background.

Capcom and Twitch announce the Capcom Pro Tour

Capcom, Twitch, and some of the World’s biggest fighting games promoters have banded together to announce one of the biggest events in Street Fighter history; a year-long, worldwide fighting game league.

Last year, we saw the Street Fighter community muster up for the Capcom Cup; an event that brought Street Fighter the closest it has ever been to the “World Warrior” tournament that is featured in the game’s storyline. The event traveled from the West Coast to the East, across Europe and South America and into the ultra-competitive depths of South East Asia in search of the World’s 8 top fighters.

This year, Capcom are hoping to see 16 warriors in the final bracket, and have laid out the Capcom Pro Tour in order to find them.

There will be 10 events where the winners will automatically qualify for the Capcom Cup, with the remaining 6 qualifying by earning points at Ranking Events around the world.

There are still events and locations to be confirmed, but so far the line up is as follows:

Premier events

  • Final Round (March 14~16 – Atlanta, GA, USA)
  • NorCal Regionals (April 18~20 – Sacramento, CA, USA)
  • Southeast Asia Majors (June 20~22 – Singapore)
  • Community Effort Orlando (June 27~29 – Orlando, FL, USA)
  • Evolution Championship Series (July 11~13 – Las Vegas, NV, USA)
  • The Fall Classic (October 10~12 – Raleigh, NC, USA)
  • DreamHack Winter (November 27~30 – Jönköping, Sweden)

Ranking events

  • SoCal Regionals (February 28~March 2, Los Angeles, CA, USA)
  • PAX East (April 11~13 – Boston, MA, USA)
  • E3 (June 10~12 – Los Angeles, CA, USA)
  • San Diego Comic Con (July 24~27 – San Diego, CA, USA)

All in all, the event looks much more America-centric than last year. Let’s hope that some South American, Asian and European events step up to fill those final event slots.

SoCal Regional competitors are going to be awarded ranking points retroactively for their efforts, this past February.

The official game for the tour will be Super Street Fighter IV AE2012, transitioning to Ultra Street Fighter IV after its public release this summer.

With a pro tour, a pro league and a new Street Fighter in the pipline, it’s looking to be one hell of a year for Capcom.
